The Benefits of a Fire Pit and Tips

Posted on:

Installing a fire pit holds countless benefits that most people aren’t even aware of. If you are considering installing a fire pit, or just looking for an Orlando hardscape to revamp your exterior, take a look at the benefits. They might just shock you.

Mosquitoes be Gone

Whether you’re burning newspaper, coal, or wood, the smoke from your fire pit will positively reduce mosquitoes from feasting on your flesh. The little buggers hate smoke. If you really want to curb the number of mosquitoes affecting your night out, you can place a couple of stalks of Citronella, Catnip, Eucalyptus or others in the fire. As the plants burn, they emit a smell (combined with smoke) that mosquitoes absolutely loathe.

Bright Nights

Keeping mosquitoes away isn’t the only obstacle during late outdoor Orlando nights. What about the light. Fire pits provide a comfortable amount of natural light, that allows you to see the person you are sitting next to, or talking to across the fire. Of course the fire pit isn’t going to light up your entire backyard, but that’s probably not what you’re looking for out of a fire pit anyway. Fire pit light is cozy, intimate, and familiar.

Year Round Warmth

Sure, it’s Central Florida, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t ever get cold. It stays just warm enough here in Orlando, that you might consider sitting outside during the winter with a couple of buddies. With a fire pit, not only can you sit outside on those cool nights, but you can enjoy them.

S’mores! S’mores! S’mores!

Without doubt, the best part of a fire pit is cooking on the open flame – especially making s’mores. What’s better than roasting marshmallows on the fire pit flames on a relaxing night by yourself, with a group of friends, or with your family. In the unlikely event that you don’t like marshmallows or s’mores, you can always pop popcorn, cook French toast, and other campfire favorites on the open flame of a fire pit.

Tips for Your Fire Pit

Make sure that whenever you start a fire in the fire pit, you make sure you watch it go out. Don’t leave fires unattended, and don’t leave small children unattended near the fire.

It is also important to keep an eye on how high the flames are getting. If there is a low hanging tree or power line above the fire pit, there is potential for it to catch. Keep a bucket of sand next to the fire pit, just in case you have to extinguish or weaken the fire.

Try and keep trash and other objects away from the base of the fire pit, as this may prevent someone from tripping and falling into the fire. Additionally, try not to wear loose clothing or blankets near the fire pit, as they are prone to catching fire easily.
